Re “They Love Strait, and Let It Show,” by Randy Lewis, May 27: I might be taking these words about George Strait defensively, but he is more than a wheel in the country music machine.

I’m a guy who grew up in the San Fernando Valley and Strait’s music has a deep meaning for me.

I’ve gone to see him at Texas Stadium and I wouldn’t do that for just a guy who has a catchy tune. That is more in line with Toby Keith than Strait.

They don’t call him king for nothing.
