Theft suspect: A California Briefing item in Section A on Aug. 27 about a jewelry theft said the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department identified suspects Jason Willis and Ashton Carter as gang members. Sheriff’s officials said later that Willis is not a documented gang member.
