$1 billion Powerball ticket sold in Illinois. But a ticket in California came close

A ticket matching all six numbers for Wednesday night’s $1.04 billion Powerball jackpot was sold in Illinois, but tickets in several other states came close, including one sold in California, game officials said.
Wednesday’s jackpot had an estimated cash value of $450.5 million and is the eighth-biggest jackpot in Powerball history, game officials said in a news release. Tickets cost $2 a piece with the odds of winning the jackpot at 1 in 292.2 million.
The winning numbers drawn were 4, 26, 66, 67, 69, and the Powerball number was 9.
The jackpot rolled over 43 times before Wednesday’s drawing. It was the first jackpot run to include players from the United Kingdom, where the game was introduced in July.
Though the big winner bought the ticket in Illinois, several others came up big on Wednesday too, matching five of six numbers, game officials said.
Five tickets sold matched the first five numbers drawn — they were in Arizona, California, Florida, North Carolina and Massachusetts.
The California winner’s prize will be determined by factors including the number of winning tickets sold and overall sales, while the winners of the tickets in Arizona, Florida and North Carolina each get a $1 million payout. The Massachusetts ticket included a Power Play option, doubling the prize to $2 million, game officials said.
