In one of the tightest races in the BuzzMeter, “Patriot” creator Steven Conrad’s quirky sort-of murder mystery “DTF St. Louis” holds a 3-point edge over “Beef.”
Despite Season 2 of “Beef” not being as tasty to some panelists as Season 1 was, it actually earned more nominations than the first, 16 to 13. Of course, Season 1 won eight — including for limited series, lead actor, lead actress, directing and writing — so Season 2 has an awfully juicy bar to reach.
“It’s going to come down to … ‘DTF St. Louis,’ Steven Conrad’s profoundly weird and moving tale of suburban isolation, and Season 2 of ‘Beef,’ Lee Sung Jin’s prestige revenge dramedy,” says Kristen Baldwin.
“Past winner ‘Beef’ [mixes] feuding couples and blackmail on top of its social commentary and standout cast,” says Tracy Brown. “But it’s up against the excellent suburban sexual murder mystery ‘DTF St. Louis.’”
Considering “DTF’s” surprising noms haul (13), Trey Mangum thinks he knows the outcome: “ ‘DTF St. Louis’ incredibly overperformed in nominations, so I think it has pretty much captured this award.” Glenn Whipp agrees that total indicates “this weird and affecting series has the momentum to win.”
