“Widow’s Bay,” which received 19 nominations, didn’t appear at all in the first round of this year’s Emmy BuzzMeter. (To be fair, it dropped about a week before the panel made its predictions.) Our panelists have remedied that omission by placing the freshman show atop its winners picks for comedy series — above even the final season of awards darling “Hacks.” The margin is only 3 points, but still …

Trey Mangum initially thought “Shrinking,” in a “breakout year,” would be “Hacks’” main competition, “but ‘Widow’s Bay’ just crashed the party, and I think we have a new favorite on the block.”

“Given voters’ penchant for crowning first-season comedies (‘Ted Lasso,’ ‘The Studio,’ ‘The Bear’), ‘Hacks’ could easily lose to ‘Widow’s Bay,’ ” notes Kristen Baldwin. “Also, please stop nominating the actually hacky ‘Only Murders’ to make room for some deserving newbies such as ‘Wonder Man.’”

But Matt Roush cautions not to underestimate the voters’ penchant for honoring shows about their industry: “‘Hacks’ ’ final season will be hard to beat, especially with HBO’s ‘The Comeback’ revival inexplicably left out, thus not dividing the showbiz vote.”

“Curses, clowns and covens populate ‘Widow’s Bay,’ Apple TV’s breakout horror comedy that has a strong chance of beating former winners ‘Hacks’ and ‘The Bear.’ Created by Katie Dippold and executive produced by ‘Atlanta’s’ Hiro Murai (who also directs), the fantastically quirky series landed 19 Emmy nominations. Spooky good.”

“Swan-song season of an Emmy favorite or buzzy Apple TV breakout? Given voters’ penchant for crowning first-season comedies (‘Ted Lasso,’ ‘The Studio,’ ‘The Bear’), ‘Hacks’ could easily lose to ‘Widow’s Bay.’ Also, please stop nominating the actually hacky ‘Only Murders’ to make room for some deserving newbies such as ‘Wonder Man.’”

“I initially thought ‘Hacks’ had this race in the bag as a returning winner up for its final season, but now I think the edge might be with ‘Widow’s Bay.’ The newcomer found its audience the old-fashioned way and its word-of-mouth momentum doesn’t seem to be slowing.”
