Father To Be Burned His Pregnant Girlfriend Alive

A father-to-be killed his heavily pregnant girlfriend by burning her alive because he could not cope with the thought of becoming a parent, a court heard.

Eren Toben, 20, lured his 19-year-old girlfriend Maria Peiner, who was eight months pregnant, into a wooded area in Berlin, Germany, before stabbing her with a bread knife and setting her alight.

The court heard he wanted a 'free, happy life' and brutally murdered his partner and their unborn baby so he could avoid fatherhood.

He has now been jailed for 14 years, alongside his accomplice, Daniel Mueller, 20, who helped carry out the horrific murder.

The court heard how the two men lured Miss Peiner into woods on the outskirts of Berlin to kill her.

ChannelsTV reports that Mrs Jonathan, who paid a condolence visit to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory over the death of his elder brother, said the president had asked her to personally come for the visit to dispel the report of her ill health.

“My husband asked me to come and see you specially. I have come to tell you sorry because of what has happened to your family. Whatever happens to you happens to us,” she said.

The trove of Nazi-looted art seized in a Munich flat included works dating from the 16th century by artists such as Canaletto, Courbet, Picasso, Chagall and Toulouse-Lautrec, German authorities say.

"A total of 121 framed and 1,285 non-framed works ... were seized," said Augsburg state prosecutor Reinhard Nemetz. There were oil paintings, others in Indian ink, pencil, water colours, colour prints, other prints from artists like Max Liebermann and others."

A previously unknown work by Marc Chagall was among the collection found in a nondescript flat owned by Cornelius Gurlitt, the reclusive elderly son of a war-time art dealer.

While in Germany, I had always thought that every Nigerian there had come in the pursuit of the Golden Fleece, at least to have a better life than what Nigeria could offer. I saw men and women, from different parts of Africa sweating it out to eke a living so that they can return to their country of origin better than they left. Despite the cold I saw them both in the morning and at night, at the bus stations, train stations, and on the walkways trying to make a difference, even though, some of them are doing jobs that seem less dignifying, at least to me. For example, I felt so sad on such occasions when I saw my fellow blacks sweeping the street, bus stations or any other public places. I often had that terrible feelings not because of the nature of the job they are doing, but for the fact that some of them left plum and highly rewarding jobs for the mad rush to stay abroad, only to discover at the last minute that it is not a bed of roses out there either. On the other hand though, some seeks greener pastures abroad because of disenchantment and loss of confidence in the ruling class who has bastardized the economy and made Nigeria, former giant of Africa, now a laughing stock in the comity of nations.
