This isn't normal...
While Europe is running out of water, we are considering growing gills. I live in an area in Taiwan that is famous for not having rain. Rain is a specialty of Taipei. We here in the South use to make jokes about the rain in Taipei. And now this:

Southern Taiwan recorded 450-500 millimeters of rainfall in the 24 hours of Saturday and the first 15 hours of Sunday, mainly in Tainan, Kaohsiung and Pingtung, according to Central Weather Administration (CWA) data.


Half a metre of rain a day... I can't even remember when this started. The current torrents are thanks to a tropical storm (and the next one is coming...), but we had plenty of rain before that. Strike "plenty", someone opened the flood gates.

I'm only glad to live and work here now, I wouldn't want to have to go 12km in this rain for work. Luckily we are right next to the sea, because seeing how much waters our drains are swallowing, I can't imagine that other areas wouldn't be flooded.

I can't even play anything from phone or tablet without earphones, the rain is just too loud now. This is crazy...

Sometimes I get to an elevated position and simply photograph above the useless "don't litter" sign.

I call it useless, because nobody is throwing anything away where the sign stands. That spot is too inconvenient. They should have placed it a few metres to the right, there people are throwing things away.

I have taken a number of sunset photos with this field of view, because on the right there is a palm tree ("Hey, a palm tree! Tropical climate! Exotic!") and on the left, but outside the photo, is a stupid sign telling people not to litter. I hate that sign because it's blocking an important view.

First I thought my eyes were not working properly, but the camera saw the same. I guess it was humidity (a light spray) from the sea creating these auras.

Keeping outside influences away isn't always easy in Taiwan...

Xu, the former head of the Taiwan People's Party's New Immigrants Committee, was convicted of violating the Anti-Infiltration Act, the Banking Act, and the Criminal Act. The verdict is expected to result in the revocation of her Taiwanese citizenship. She will also be deported after completing her prison sentence, per LTN.


Someone from the PRC... How did she get to Taiwan?

She married and moved to Taiwan in 1993 and obtained Taiwanese citizenship in 2000, although she did not renounce her Chinese citizenship. She served for years as head of the Cross-Strait Marriage and Family Service Alliance and maintained frequent contact with Chinese officials.


So that was back when the KMT still invited women from the PRC to come to Taiwan.

An investigation found that Xu had long-term interactions with multiple Chinese officials and, starting in 2021, followed their instructions to campaign for TPP candidates, thereby allowing pro-unification forces to gain influence within the party. A candidate recommended by Chinese officials was eventually included on the TPP's list of at-large legislative candidates.


The TPP came into existence when a few people left the DPP. Apparently there was some outside support. So, it was all political?

She was also charged with operating an underground money exchange and engaging in loan fraud in March. The New Taipei District Court found her guilty of these charges as part of the combined seven-year sentence, which can be appealed, per LTN.


Ah, she's universally talented... OK, seriously: Until all this was proven, you can bet that there was a lot of loud noise complaining about "prosecution by the DPP" etc. I wish we had friendlier neighbours...

die Hauptverkehrsstrasse vor meiner Wohnung, 5s nachdem der #Airdrill in #Taiwan beendet wurde.
