LMU Loyola Law School (LLS) was built as a part-time evening program more than a century ago, establishing a commitment to access and academic excellence. The law school’s part-time Hybrid JD Program continues that legacy, thoughtfully evolving to meet the needs of today’s law students without compromising rigor or purpose.

By integrating the strengths of traditional classroom learning with the flexibility of a hybrid model, LLS offers a dynamic, engaging educational experience. Hybrid JD students spend one full evening a week at LLS’ award-winning, Frank Gehry-designed campus in Downtown Los Angeles, collaborating and connecting with each other, their professors and the larger law school community, with the remainder of their coursework delivered through synchronous sessions and asynchronous materials designed by our dedicated faculty.

LLS engages the law with creative thought and deliberate action to advance legal policy and prepare new generations to shape the justice system. In keeping with this hallmark of a Loyola education, Hybrid JD students benefit from custom-tailored experiential opportunities. This includes participation in the Loyola Justice for Atrocities Clinic, in which students perform in-person monitoring of a recent historic torture trial; the Loyola Project for the Innocent, where, in April, they screened letters and calls from potential clients alleging wrongful conviction; and the Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution. These programs are part of the Loyola Social Justice Law Clinic, a constellation of 20-plus live-client clinics based on the school’s campus. To date, LLS students have contributed more than 1 million hours of pro bono service to the community.

Additionally, Hybrid JD Evening students participate in the Transactional Law Clinic, the first live-client clinic for students interested in transactional and IP law. They represent start-ups, specializing in one of two tracks – corporate or trademark. Those in the trademark track participate in a clinic certified by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Law School Clinic Certification Program – the only such clinic in the area.

Hybrid JD students expand their networks thanks to a range of events that convene alumni and other leading lawyers for evening and virtual events. And they were part of the Transactional Lawyering Institute’s first-ever Bay Area Career Trek this spring, where they spent two days in San Francisco connecting with Loyola alumni and legal professionals working at the intersections of law and technology, business and venture capital. From major law firms to innovative companies, students gained firsthand insight into a range of career pathways and the many ways legal training can be applied beyond law school.

Hybrid JD students join a network of 21,000 alumni. This includes myriad evening JD graduates who have gone on to prominent careers in law, business, government and the judiciary.

AREAS OF EMPHASIS OFFERED: Experiential training is a hallmark of a Loyola education.
