Skydiving instructor killed in eastern San Diego County

An experienced skydiver died Friday afternoon in the Jamul area of eastern San Diego County, the Sheriff’s Department said.

The skydiver made a “hard-landing” near Otay Lakes Road, officials said. The Skydive San Diego facility is nearby.

The county medical examiner Saturday identified the skydiver as Andrei Penz, 30, of San Diego, a skydiving instructor. Earlier reports said the man was 27.
