710 Freeway reopened after woman fatally struck running in lanes

The 710 Freeway was reopened overnight after a woman was fatally struck by a vehicle despite police efforts to stop traffic.
Lanes were reopened just north of the 405 Freeway interchange shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The woman, who was not immediately identified, was reported running in traffic lanes about 8:35 p.m. Authorities attempted to stop traffic to avoid a collision, but she was struck anyway, said CHP Officer Tony Polizzi.
The Long Beach Fire Department and the Los Angeles County coroner’s office also responded to the scene.
A SigAlert was issued after the southbound lanes of the freeway closed just north of the 405 Freeway for the investigation. One lane was reopened at 11:50 p.m.
