Reader Photo: Great blue heron at Whittier Narrows Recreation Area

Kathy Degner was at Legg Lake in the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area on July 29 looking for juvenile American coots. At the lake’s edge, she spotted a great blue heron standing motionless. She approached it, and it began preening itself.
“I loved how the breeze was ruffling his feathers, and was just hoping for a good shot,” she said.
Degner used a Canon EOS 7D.
