Houston, Texas - In his latest album, A Necessary Evil, Americana recording artist Chuck Leah transforms his own brush with mortality into a musical exploration of temptation, redemption, and the choices that define a life.

Following last year’s Grammy® Award season, Leah suffered what at first seemed like only a bruised toe during his stay in Hollywood. Still, after returning to Texas, he found himself rushed to a Houston hospital in life-threatening shock as sepsis nearly claimed his life.

“Within weeks, I was on experimental drugs with no guarantee of survival,” Leah remembers. Following an excruciating, six-week life-or-death struggle that he ultimately survived, Leah was left with a permanently wounded knee that sometimes demands he use a walking cane.

Yet, during those dark, uncertain hours he lay in limbo, Leah said he reflected on mortality, legacy, and the choices that shape every human life.

Vivid childhood memories came back to Leah of one of American music’s most enduring legends: blues pioneer Robert Johnson and the mythical crossroads, where, according to folklore, a man could exchange his soul for greatness.

Whether viewed as history or metaphorically, the crossroads for Leah became something deeply personal as his new album began to take shape.

“I wasn’t thinking about the Devil per se,” Leah reflects, although “a necessary evil came to mind. What I was thinking about,” he said, “is about the choices we all make, the price we all pay for our dreams, and what truly matters when you don’t know if you’re going to wake up tomorrow.”

“My songs go deep on this album,” he said, noting they “metaphorically ponder what each of us are willing to sacrifice for success.”

Emanating from Leah’s profound experience is a remarkable collection of songs that may be his most authentic and emotionally charged work to date. In addition to the standout track “Coyote,” the album features “Gasoline & Mud,” “Hallowed Ground,” “Texas Twister,” and “Wait for the Devil.”

Rooted in the traditions of Americana and the storytelling spirit of the Mississippi Delta, the songs explore ambition, temptation, redemption, survival and the quiet resilience of ordinary people facing an unknown fate.

“Coyote” is a haunting and cinematic song inspired by a vivid image that stayed with Leah throughout his recovery: a lone, hungry coyote patiently waiting in the darkness for its next meal.

For Leah, the “Coyote” became more than a desert predator; it became a symbol of life’s constant uncertainty and the temptations we face among the unseen forces that wait patiently at every crossroads.

“Coyote” is perhaps Leah’s most poetically brilliant and interesting musical adventure yet. A haunting and engaging chant is enhanced by the track’s melodic guitars as Leah’s storytelling lyrics again demonstrate mastery of his songwriting prowess.

The album was recorded at the Power Station in New England, Blackbird Studio in Nashville, and mixed at Sunset Studios in L.A.

Leah’s all-star band features three-time Grammy Award® winning multi-instrumentalist Larry Campbell, Grammy® nominated session drummer Aaron Sterling (John Mayer, Taylor Swift, Harry Styles), Hammond organist Eric Finland (Gregg Allman, Blues Brothers), and Scott Eric Oliver (Chris Cornell, Goo Goo Dolls, Van Halen, Gwen Stefani).

The album’s award-winning mix of back-up singers includes Armand Hutton, Ronnie Robertson, Samson White and Elvie Williams.
