Kenley Jansen visits doctor for irregular heartbeat

Phoenix — After experiencing shortness of breath and an irregular heartbeat on Thursday night, Kenley Jansen left the Dodgers’ spring-training complex to visit a doctor this morning.

Jansen is expected to return to Camelback Ranch later today.

Jansen spent a month on the disabled list last season with heart problems. He was hospitalized for a week with an irregular heart beat and was placed on blood-thinning medication to prevent a clot or stroke.

Jansen averaged 16.1 strikeouts per nine innings last season, setting an all-time major-league record.

Update at 9:58 a.m.: Jansen was cleared by Dr. John Monroe to resume baseball activities. Jansen was back at Camelback Ranch Friday and was scheduled to play catch later in the day.
