Formula One race in Austin sets ticket prices and race date

Tickets go on sale Sunday for this fall’s U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, which would mark the return of Formula One racing to the U.S. market after a five-year absence.

The race is scheduled for Nov. 18 at a $300-million track now under construction called Circuit of the Americas.

The track said Tuesday that three-day general admission tickets would be $159, and would allow those spectators to watch the race from several grassy berms and other public areas around the 3.4-mile track.

The two days before the race include the drivers’ practice sessions and qualifying to set the race’s starting order.

Three-day reserved grandstand seats range rom $269 to $499 depending on their location. Circuit of the Americas currently is not selling single-day tickets.

The U.S. Grand Prix is the next-to-last race on the Formula One schedule and could play a key role in determining this year’s F1 world champion.

Six different drivers won the first six races of the season, the first time that’s happened in the series’ 62-year history. Fernando Alonso of Ferrari holds a slim three-point lead over Red Bull Racing teammates Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel, the reigning champion.
