Italy: An 8-day tour in Dolomites to mark the start of World War I

To commemorate the centennial of the beginning of World War I, Dolomite Mountains Ltd. will lead eight-day tours exploring the via ferrata, or iron path, the network of lines and metal ladders built to aid soldiers as they fought in and around the steep Dolomite peaks of northern Italy.
Beginning in Cortina d’ Ampezzo, hikers will climb a different via ferrata each day as guides discuss the stories, ruins and remnants of the historic routes among the Dolomites. The hike ends in Alta Badia.
Dates: Available as a private tour or as a group departure on July 5, Aug. 2 or Sept. 16.
Price: From about $2,700 a person, for a group of four. Included are a local English-speaking guide, accommodations, some meals, via ferrata equipment, lifts and cable cars. International airfare is not included.
