On World Spree’s starter trip to Vietnam, you’ll visit Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and kick back on a cruise of the country’s famed Halong Bay. The 12-day tour -- including airfare, hotels and ground transportation -- is on sale for $1,799 a person.

The deal: World Spree is known for its low-cost trips, particularly to Asian destinations. The company adds an extra night and lowered the price by $100 on selected dates for its Amazing Vietnam tour.

You’ll stop in Hanoi, Hue, Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An and take a one-night cruise in Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site in northeastern Vietnam.

The $1,799 price is per person and based on double occupancy. It includes round-trip airfare from Los Angeles on Cathay Pacific as well as a few short flights within the country.

Daily breakfast, two lunches and two dinners, sightseeing tours on coaches and airport transfers also are included in the price.

When: The lowest prices for this tour depart in May and part of September, based on availability.

Tested: I found availability for tours leaving Los Angeles on May 1, 8 and 15. The cost of the trip breaks down to about $179 a day (based on 10-night stay) per person.

The price on this tour is a good one, considering that round-trip airfare alone from L.A. on Cathay Pacific in May runs about $1,000 per person.
