Portland Pirate Festival

Portland pulls out the eye patches for this festival, which in its second year has been expanded to two days. Among the highlights: cannon battles, parrot shows, sword-fighting demonstrations, storytellers, activities and crafts for the kids, strolling performers, tall-ship tours and pirate-themed music performers.

When, where: Sept. 22 and 23 at Cathedral Park, at North Edison Street and Pittsburg Avenue.

Admission: $12; $6 for kids 3 to 12; $15 and $8 at the gate.
