Daily Deal: Grand Canyon Railway’s Earth Day journey and discount

The Grand Canyon Railway is sprucing up its 90-year-old steam train with a green makeover for Earth Day, which is Monday (today). The former Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe train will run on eco-friendly recycled vegetable oil for the ride to the Grand Canyon. Grab a seat this month and receive half off a future visit.
The deal: Diesel trains operate daily from Williams, Ariz., to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. It’s a 130-mile round-trip ride with observation cars that provide a front-row seat to the spectacular desert landscape. The steam engine train, fueled by cooking oil gathered from a restaurant at the site, will run the first Saturday of the month, May through September.
The deal is good on either train: Take a ride in April and receive half off a second ride through the end of the year. Round-trip tickets cost $75 for adults and $45 for children.
When: The offer is good for tickets and rides through April 30.
Details: This is a good deal for train buffs and families seeking a fun spring outing who want to come back for a second trip. Note the discount doesn’t apply to special events such as the seasonal Pumpkin Patch or Polar Express rides.
