HIGHWAYS : Clout Paying Off in Freeway Funds

Thanks to growing political clout in Sacramento, Orange County expects to receive five times as much money for highways and freeways through 1990 as it got in the last 10 years.

The Orange County Transportation Commission also reported on Thursday that the increased money would allow for improvements to the Santa Ana and San Diego freeways, among other things.

The commission said the increase in highway money from the state reflects not only Orange County political power but renewed statewide commitment to highway projects.
