Violence on Southern California Freeways
What surprises me about freeway violence is that it has not happened sooner. Drivers checkerboard and tailgate at high rates of speed with impunity.
Six months ago I was given my first speeding ticket in 15 years. I was driving the speed limit when I had to speed up for five seconds to 70 m.p.h. to be in a position to use an off ramp one mile away and returned to the speed limit, only to be ticketed! I pleaded guilty with an explanation, but the judge found me guilty and I paid the fine.
If the CHP concentrated on drivers who checkerboard and tailgate, these freeway cowboys would soon be eradicated.
