Four Airlines Match American’s Increase: Northwest Airlines, Trans World Airlines, United Airlines and USAir matched a 10% hike by American Airlines in the cost of certain one-way discount fares used most by business travelers. The airlines also placed advance purchase restrictions on those higher fares, most of which take effect Feb. 1. Meanwhile, Delta Airlines said it was matching American’s separate $6 fuel surcharge on all one-way fares, to take effect Feb. 9.
