* Edward R. Beauvais has resigned as chairman of the board of America West Airlines.
Michael J. Conway, president and chief executive officer of America West, will assume the additional title of chairman.
Beauvais, who founded the Phoenix-based airline in 1983, said in a statement that he resigned “in the best interests” of America West and is considering other opportunities. Beauvais stepped down as chief executive in September, 1991, shortly after the carrier filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
