Meade Instruments Corp.: The Irvine telescope manufacturer reported that income more than doubled in the third quarter to $2.5 million, or 37 cents a share, from $1.1 million, or 34 cents a share, a year ago on a smaller number of shares outstanding. Sales for the three months ended Nov. 30 rose nearly 22% to $24.1 million from $19.8 million.

For the nine months, net income totaled $3.5 million, or 50 cents a share, up from $1.6 million, or 29 cents a share, for the first three quarters last year. Sales rose 25.9% to $49.1 million from $39 million.
