* Hewlett-Packard Co., based in Palo Alto, unveiled a new computer chip that it will use to build powerful server computers aimed at winning sales from traditional mainframe computer users. The new chip, called the PA-8500, will be available in HP computers by the end of the year, HP said. The PA-8500 is a so-called RISC chip, because it uses reduced instruction set computing.
