* On Sept. 16 you ran some letters that said we need more electric vehicles. One of the letters decried how manufacturers are dragging their heels building these cars. They may have once, but I think that is changing.
I recently bought a hybrid gasoline-electric car, a 2000 model Toyota Prius. It has a small gas engine and a larger electric engine. Never needs to be plugged in and gets 60-plus miles per gallon . . . in the city! There is an 80,000-mile warranty.
I’m told the technology is second-generation. I love the car, and I love that I’m doing something that is good for California.
