Around Laguna: Sally’s Fund receives $50,000 grant from Samueli Foundation

Sally’s Fund, a nonprofit group that provides transportation and other services to the senior population of Laguna Beach, has received a $50,000 grant from the Samueli Foundation, the organization announced on Wednesday.
“This grant comes at a pivotal moment for Sally’s Fund,” Rachael Berger, the nonprofit’s executive director, said in a statement. “Unrestricted funding like this allows us to invest where it is most needed — strengthening the systems, staff, and expertise that keep our services running reliably.
“Most importantly, it helps ensure that we can continue providing dependable, compassionate transportation to the seniors and disabled adults who rely on Sally’s Fund.”
Sally’s Fund, founded in 1982, assists seniors with rides within a 30-mile radius to essential appointments such as dental and medical. The organization, which accommodated nearly 5,000 weekday trips in 2025, also provides for food and grocery delivery.
Glennwood Housing Foundation, Inc., an affordable senior housing community in Laguna Beach, was also among 89 Orange County nonprofit organizations to benefit from $15 million in grants provided for by the Samueli Foundation through its Breakaway and Build OC Fund initiatives.
The Breakaway Fund awards unrestricted grants worth between $50,000 and $100,000. Both Glennwood Housing Foundation, Inc. and Sally’s Fund were selected as recipients through that program.
Art festivals closing out summer season
Recent temperatures have served as a reminder that summer is still in session, and there’s still time to visit Laguna Beach’s art festivals: Art-A-Fair, the Festival of Arts, and the Sawdust Art Festival.
The Festival of Arts fine art show shutters on Sept. 3, while the Pageant of the Masters’ “Greatest of All Time” production reaches the end of its run at the Irvine Bowl on Sept. 4.
Sunday, Sept. 6 will be the last chance to enter Art-A-Fair and the Sawdust Art Festival, both of which are celebrating their 60th anniversary in town.
Fire truck dedication event
In other Laguna Beach news, the fire department is adding a new fire apparatus to its fleet, and residents are invited to next week’s dedication event.
A new fire engine will be dedicated on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Fire Station No. 2, located at 285 Agate Street. Community members will have an opportunity to meet their firefighters.
