We're approaching the final steps of the Wide Conferences (SFU) feature with the introduction of screen-sharing!

This already worked with the Muji system (P2P), but now you'll be able to stream your screen and webcam directly to the SFU service, which will take care of broadcasting it to everyone in the room... allowing things to scale to many more viewers ✨

There are still a few things to review and fix, but we're almost there 👀

Warning for #NixOS users out there:

The new systemd intird was submitted to NixOS unstable and is now the default as of a few days ago. I discovered the hard way that if you have the github.com/FlameFlag/nixcord flake in your configuration after updating your flakes and rebuild, you'll be unable to properly boot.

After spending time with the people working on NixOS's systemd, we discovered that there's an activation script that nixcord uses that causes the problem.

So the only solutions are to disable the systemd initrd (which will be the default in unstable and the next release of NixOS), or disable Nixcord.

3. Eltern mal auf ihre Kinder aufpassen, statt das an den Staat zu out sourcen. Ich hab mich zu diesem Punkt auch schon ausgiebig ausgelassen, als es um die #alterskontrolle bei #Discord ging oder #socialmediaverbot ging. Mit etwas Überarbeitung kann ich diese Beiträge mMn wunderbar immer dann raus holen, wenn wieder mal mehr eindeutige Identifikation von Personen und Ausspähen deren Treiben gefordert wird, um ANGEBLICH Kinder zu schützen.

@Alter_Mann Ich hätte da eine nicht-technische Lösung. Elterliche Aufsicht. Aber nein, das Kind wird in einem Entwicklungsstadium, in dem es noch alles in den Mund nimmt, ans Tablet vor "Coco Melon", Babyshark und TikTok gesetzt, damit es ja beschäftigt ist und die Schnauze hält.

In einem Alter, in dem ein Kind noch nicht reflektiert, sondern konsumiert, sollte man vielleicht als Eltern keine Kontrolle des Konsums des Kindes durch Dritte fordern, sondern selbst durchsetzen.

I've actually been looking into all available options for the past few weeks for other reasons, so here's a thread to share what I've found.

In particular I'm looking for stuff with:

Oh look: #discord outsourced their age verification to some vendor. You know, the #ageverification that countries like the UK want to make mandatory for basically every online service. And the vendor had a data breach exposing photos of government IDs for 70,000 people.

Do you feel safer? How many children did we protect by exposing the IDs of these 70,000 (presumably) adults? Thanks for taking one for the team, you 70,000 canaries in the #privacy coal mine.
