Crimecon and Roblox Pedo Problem

Chris Hansen Gets Banned from Roblox Live on Stage at #CrimeCon

source: games.gg/news/chris-hansen-ban…

A live demonstration at CrimeCon has raised new questions about child safety on #Roblox. Television personality #ChrisHansen and #YouTuber #Schlep were showing how easily adults can contact younger users through Roblox’s social features. During the demonstration, Roblox’s automated #system suddenly banned Hansen’s account in real time.

The moment was highly ironic. Roblox was able to detect and remove a demonstration account within seconds, yet the wider problem the demonstration was exposing remains a concern. Automated moderation mainly reacts to behavior patterns and cannot reliably understand context or intent.

This raises a controversial #question: Can platforms quickly ban people who expose safety problems while failing to prevent the problems themselves? Critics could argue that this reveals a deeper #conflict between effective child protection and commercial interests. If a company can efficiently police visible users but cannot—or does not sufficiently—address systemic risks that may affect its business, profit can appear to take priority over safety. The incident therefore adds pressure on Roblox to address the underlying problem, not simply the people drawing attention to it.

Hey, welcome to diaspora* :)

Here’s a few tips for getting started:

  • There are some step-by-step tutorials on our project website covering the basics of how diaspora* works, and how to get connected with people. There’s a link to these in the side-bar, should you ever want to read them in future, and there’s also an in-app Help section you can access through your user menu (at the right-hand end of the header bar).
  • You can search for people by name or by diaspora* ID (which looks like an email address), if you know it, from the search field in the header bar. You can invite people to join you in diaspora* by sending them a link to our project website, from where they can choose their own pod to register with. Your friends don’t need to be on the same pod as you in order to connect and communicate with you.
  • One good way to start getting connected with people is to start following some #tags of subjects that interest you (maybe #music, #photography, #linux, or #art … whatever interests you) so that you will see content on those topics in your stream. You can then start following people whose posts you find interesting, by placing them into one of your aspects.
  • If you have any questions, post something with the #question or #help tag, and people will try to help you. Make sure to make your post public so anyone who can help is able to see it!

OK, #fediverse #hivemind, here's a #question.

I want to put #VPN gateways at my house and my mother's house 500 km away, so I can have remote access to both home networks.

Given everything that's going on in the consumer router market, what would you suggest?

I was at one point considering the D-Link DSR-250V2. Is there anything else out there that's reasonably priced and reasonably secure? Are there any #FOSS solutions for this? #networking

On my Linux Mint, I see updates about the Linux Kernel Headers 6 (as you can see on screenshot), but currently the machine is running the Kernel 7 (if I follow the command line result).

Am I wrong, confuse ? (I'm not a kernel expert as you can see 😅 😜 )

Thx for you light 😎

Alright. I've stumbled onto an area of Tiktok that's leaving me somewhat confused.

The #Question:

My young daughter needs to go to the toilet. Should I (Dad) take her into the men's to use a cubicle, or the women's to use the cubicle? She's not old enough to go in on her own/can't wipe etc etc.

What's the correct course of action here because honestly, the thing I *was* doing appears to go against what I'm seeing on tiktok and I'm wondering if I'm going crazy or if Tiktok is being Tiktok again and warping reality.

I am considering migrating my Home Lab server from Debian to NixOS, since I already try to keep the configuration under version control and that would make it much easier in some ways.

Are there any pros and cons you ppl of the internet can give me?

For a little context:
I am running an N200 NUC with 16 GB of RAM. My main concern is power usage and that I can use my resources effectively. Since the N200 is drawing very little already and is not particularly fast, I would prefer performance gains over even less power draw.
Most stuff currently is running in containers, but I intend to change this and run more things natively. I know containers don't add a lot of overhead and I will likely first start with replacing services with more efficient replacements (for example replace Keycloak with something lighter like rauth or ferriskey) but after that migrate to native software from docker. Except for Overleaf, that I will likely not migrate to native. Seems like hell managing it

There is a #RaspberryPi fanbase on #TikTok: The question now is whether reach is more important than free #software. On the one hand, it’s great when people #tinker with the right components, but they should also understand the concept behind them. Without the major commercial social networks, however, no one would even notice. That’s why hardly anyone in the #mainstream is familiar with #Firefox or #Linux.

Tiktok has discovered Raspberry Pi based DIY cyberdecks. It's amazing and very inspiring, they are not only fusing it with whimsical and mermaid design styles, but also with tech politics of anti-surveillance, off-grid knowledge mirrors (incl. Wikipedia) and retro gaming.(screenshots of: ubeboobey, rainbowsandbiscuits, caitlinjordan_)
