With an #InterCity 125 #HST, operated by #ScotRail 🇬🇧 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 under the brand name #inter7city, from #Inverness to #Glasgow over the single track Highland Main Line. At #Pitlochry, roughly half way, we have to wait for about 10 minutes in order to let an oncoming #LNER #Azuma service from London pass.

A photo taken in #Brussels in March 2002: back then, #SNCB #NMBS Class HLE16 electrics used to haul some of the international #InterCity trains between #Oostende and #Köln. These locos were able to operate, i.a., under 3kV DC and 15 kV AC wires.

Since it’s Saint Patrick's Day 🍀 🇮🇪: going through pictures taken in #Ireland in August 2024, travelling from #Dublin to #Belfast with the #IrishRail #Translink #Enterprise #InterCity. It’s a push-pull train. There’s an IÉ Class 201 diesel, and … (🥁) it’s got a bar-buffet style #DiningCar (sort of).

#FS 🇮🇹 #Trenitalia #InterCity trains, like the #Ventimiglia to #Milano one today, haven’t got a proper #DiningCar in their consists. Yet, in most cases, there’s a multi-purpose car with vending machines and an area with bar stools. The espresso coffee, it costs 1.30 Euros, is actually quite decent.☕️👌

#Koblenz 🇩🇪 Hbf. in November 2005: a #DB Class 181.2 dual voltage loco, able to operate under 15 kV and 25kV AC overhead wires, has just been coupled onto an #InterCity for #Luxembourg 🇱🇺. The line follows the #Mosel valley, making this a very scenic ride.

First train today: #Palermo 🇮🇹 to #Messina by #Trenitalia #InterCity. It’s a push-pull operation: after the ferry-crossing from #Sicily to the mainland, the train will be coupled to a section originating in #Siracusa. I’m travelling in a former, 2nd generation, Grand Confort car, refurbished to an “IC Sun” interior with seat bays for two or four passengers. And: there are vending machines for drinks and snacks on the train, but no @diningcar .

#Rome 🇮🇹 to #Livorno on board #IC510. This is one of #Trenitalia’s (very) long-distance daytime #InterCity trains: 11 hours from #Salerno to #Torino. It hasn’t got a #DiningCar, just an ex-#SelfService carriage with vending machines and a few bar stools.
Passing Roma S. Pietro, we see the track leading into the Vatican. It is used, for instance, if members of the College of Cardinals are travelling as a group by charter train - a stretch of line off limits for the ordinary train buff.

Seen at Villa S. Giovanni 🇮🇹 about a week ago: an #FS #Trenitalia “Hitachi Blues” Class #HTR412 #hybrid unit on an #InterCity service along the “Ionian Line” from #Bari. These are tri-mode trains, able to operate under 3kV DC catenary, as a diesel unit or even battery powered.

The #FS 🇮🇹 #Trenitalia #InterCity trains running between #Sicily and #Rome don’t have a proper #DiningCar in their consist. However, there’s a snack point (with a coffee machine) in a multi-purpose car. These cars were rebuilt from various types of 1970s #GranConfort or #SelfService diners.

At #Messina 🇮🇹 our #FS #Trenitalia #InterCity is loaded onto a #ferry that takes us to Villa S. Giovanni, in #Calabria, the southern tip of mainland #Italy. The barman on the ferry most likely holds a world record: he is selling food and drinks to hundreds of customers during the short crossing.
