I still use F-Droid occasionally on Android 5 Lollipop on my 2017 Amazon Fire tablet. What client should I use now that F-Droid 2.0 is going to stop supporting it?
I also use F-Droid significantly more often on Android 11 Red Velvet Cake (on my 2022 Amazon Fire Tablet) and on Android 16 Baklava QPR0.

🗺️ While visiting Pride #Berlin, I learned how utterly pointless #GoogleMaps Reviews in #Germany are.
⭐ Any place can simply report negative #reviews for defamation or claim the person was never there and have it removed.
Users can then appeal & risk a lawsuit.
When a review is removed the removed count on #Google Maps goes up (🖼️ 1)

I really want to find a mobile handset that I can install a de-googled OS or Linux alternative. Currently in Japan so while there is an amazing amount of pre-owned devices here the ones that I can easily install PostmarketOS or Lineage on are not easy to come by or cost more than I want to spend.
This month, Google starts rolling out a new law, which disables every app which isn't registered on their playstore. On every device, worldwide.
Luckily, there's a whole list of European brands selling phones with a non-google android installed. 😊
Here's a list, including alternative OSes to install yourself.

Porting phones to create degoogled ROMS or alternative mobile OS images for it is not usually an easy thing. For starters it requires owning the device for testing (at the risk of bricking it if something goes really wrong), and it having a bootloader which can be unlocked (which is also something OEM's are closing off more for the newer devices), as well as having its kernel source published. That said, luckily the list of devices with degoogled ROM's or alternative OS's for them is likely longer than you think.
For those new to the process, the best general resource for instructions on how to unlock your phone’s bootloader and flash alternate AOSP ROM’s or non-Android OS’s is xdaforums.com/
Please note that not all carriers and oem’s allow you to unlock the bootloader though, so choose your device carefully for this.
You will also most likely need a PC (desktop or laptop) with adb & fastboot on it. These are apps used in the terminal, but you only need to copy and paste a few commands into them to use it.
If you have a Google Pixel then the best option is Graphene - grapheneos.org/
For other devices you can use a “degoogled” Android ROM and get apps from the open source F-Droid app store - f-droid.org/
Some choices for this are:

/e/os - e.foundation/e-os/

OR use a a true alternative mobile OS. Options for this are:

Has the situation changed in the mean time, and is it possible to run common banking, health and identification apps without Google Play and GoogleEngine? #degoogle
For me Google Free or deGoogled means getting rid of their services and Android (including OpenAndroid). I am proudly and eagerly waiting for my Jolla J2 (2026) phone.

Recommendations request: I want to #DeGoogle (as much as I can, anyway). My two current main priorities for planning for Fall semester:

My son is 17 today and uses a Pixel with #GrapheneOS, as well as #Linux on his computer. As for social media, he uses Instagram.Compared to his friends, he spends a quarter of the average time on his phone. I think I gave him a good foundation, and I’m glad that his phone isn’t something that limits him. What our child ends up doing depends mostly on us, the parents! #degoogle

Die ersten Dienste werfe ich lokal über Docker an und ich fuchse mich immer tiefer in Themen wie #DeGoogle, #SelfHosting und #SimpleX rein.
Suche hier nach Gleichgesinnten, die auch lieber selbst hosten statt mieten.
